Programming events at the Garden are often co-created with the surrounding community. From the start, Moveable wanted to be intentional in its design. The Garden commissioned four local women-identifying artists to create handwoven murals as permanent art installations for the space. Their use of embroidery as a medium pays homage to what is often just seen as a “domestic” craft. Each mural speaks to the heritage of both San Jose’s civic identity as well as their memories from the San Jose Flea Market. Across our events, we have partnered with local arts and cultural organizations such as The Arsenal and Sonido Clash to curate unique experiences. We believe that programming with local community groups and organizations is at the heart and soul of sustainable placekeeping.
